My Reflection about IT in LE Class

In this meeting I learn about how to make portofolio or CV with verious design using defferent tools. One of them is Linkedln. In this meeting I also learn about TPAK, which is a guide for teacher educator to teach using technology and the content knowledge.

In technology, LinkedIn stands out as a beacon for professional networking and career advancement. The platform's ability to connect individuals across industries and foster meaningful professional relationships is intriguing. LinkedIn, to me, is not merely a job-search tool; it's a dynamic space where ideas, experiences, and opportunities converge. It serves as a digital resume, a portfolio of accomplishments, and a stage to showcase professional growth. As an educator, LinkedIn provides a unique avenue to share insights, collaborate with peers, and stay updated on the evolving trends in education and technology.

TPACK, short for Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge, holds immense importance in the contemporary educational landscape. It is the compass that guides educators in seamlessly integrating technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge. TPACK empowers teachers to align their teaching strategies with technological tools, ensuring a more engaging and effective learning experience for students. Personally, I believe TPACK is essential. It equips educators with the skills to navigate the digital realm and create meaningful learning experiences that go beyond traditional methods.

In the classroom, TPACK manifests as a dynamic fusion of technology, pedagogy, and subject matter expertise. It involves selecting and integrating technology tools that complement the curriculum, enhance student understanding, and foster critical thinking. Feedback and constructive criticism are the cornerstones of personal and professional development. My Reflection about AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a cornerstone of our technological landscape, shaping industries and daily life. In the realm of education, its integration brings forth both promises and challenges that merit careful consideration.


AI in General:

In my perspective about AI, it suggests a transformative force with the potential to revolutionize processes, automate tasks, and generate new insights. However, the enthusiasm must be tempered with a critical eye on ethical concerns and potential biases that could arise.

AI in Education:

In education, AI introduces exciting possibilities. Personalized learning experiences, adaptive assessments, and streamlined administrative tasks are just a glimpse of its potential benefits. Yet, the implementation of AI in education demands a delicate balance to ensure it enhances, rather than replaces, the human touch in teaching and learning.

Responsible AI Usage:

For the responsibility, I think it depends on the usage. Transparency, fairness, and accountability are paramount. Striking this balance necessitates an ongoing commitment to evaluating and refining AI systems, addressing biases, and considering the ethical implications of their deployment

Educating on AI Strengths and Risks:

 The Goal of Polling Apps during ELT

In English Language Teaching (ELT) aims to foster interactive learning environments, encouraging student engagement, gauging comprehension levels, and obtaining valuable feedback.


Google Forms: A Closer Look

So, google form is kind of online software that has a function to create surveys, quizzes, and . It's also part of Google's web-based apps suite, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and more. Google form has a versatile tool that can be used for various applications, from gathering RSVPs for an event to creating a pop quiz. 


Why Google Forms?

Well, I choose this app because this app is really helpful in making a question or quizzes easier or in doing a survey. Not only that, I choose Google Forms because of its accessibility, collaborative features, and seamless integration with other Google applications. If I can compare with another polling apps, unlike standalone polling apps, Google Forms offers a comprehensive ecosystem that simplifies data collection and analysis.


Advantages over Other Apps

So, one of the standout advantages is its intuitive interface, making it easy for both educators and students to create and respond to polls. It also has the ability to embed multimedia elements, such as images and videos, sets Google Forms apart, enhancing the richness of questions.


Free vs Paid Plan: Unpacking the Options

So, Google Forms has 2 models plan; free and paid plan. In free plan, Google Form operates on a freemium model, with a robust free plan offering ample features for most classroom scenarios. While in the paid plan, part of Google Workspace for Education, provides additional storage and administrative controls. Is there any crucial downside in this app? Yes, there is. The crucial downside lies in the potential limitations of the free plan for larger institutions with extensive data needs.


Practical Classroom Application

In my opinion, this app can be applied in any classroom. For example; imagine a language arts class exploring a new novel. A teacher can create a Google Form with questions assessing comprehension, opinions, and reflections. Then, Students submit responses in real-time, enabling the teacher to adapt the lesson based on immediate feedback.


In conclusion, Google Forms emerges as a powerful tool for ELT polling, offering a seamless user experience, collaborative features, and an extensive free plan. While the paid plan may be necessary for institutions with heightened data demands. Overall, versatility and ease of use make Google Forms a standout choice for educators looking to enhance their teaching methodologies.

Literally, "Kahoot!" is an interactive learning platform and game-based educational tool that allows teacher and student to create and participate in quizzes, surveys, and discussions.


Steps to Use "Kahoot!" to Online Platform

1. To sign up or log in:

  • Go to the Kahoot! website (kahoot.com) or download the Kahoot! app on your device.
  • Create an account or log in if you already have one.

2. Create a Kahoot!:

  • Click on "Create" to make your own Kahoot! quiz, survey, or discussion.
  • Then add questions and answer choices, including multiple-choice questions, true/false questions, and more.
  • Customize the timer, points, and other settings for each question.
  • Add images or videos to make your Kahoot! more engaging.

3. Save and Publish:O

  • Once your Kahoot! is complete, click on the "Save" button.

There are some weaknesses that I found in this tool

  • Kahoot! primarily supports multiple-choice questions. So, the variety of assessment options like true or false, reading comprehension, etc limited.
  • Improvement: they can expand question types to include open-ended questions, true/false, and short-answer questions would enhance versatility.

2. Lack of Student Collaboration:

  • Literally, this tool is a solo activity, or individual activity. So, there is no group activity in this tool.
  • Improvement: they can introduce or add a collaborative modes or team-based challenges could encourage group learning and teamwork.

3. Game Duration:

  • Kahoot! games can be time-consuming, making it challenging to fit into shorter class periods.
  • Improvement: they can options for shorter game modes or quick quizzes would cater to different time constraints.

4. Limited Customization:

  • Customizing Kahoot! games can be somewhat limited in terms of design and branding.
  • Improvement: Expanding customization options, including background themes, branding, and question formatting, would enhance user engagement.

5. Lack of Offline Access:

  • Kahoot! relies on an internet connection, which sometimes can be problematic in areas with poor connectivity.
  • Improvement: Developing an offline mode for Kahoot! to work without an internet connection would improve accessibility.

6. Advanced Features for Pro Users:

  • The free version of Kahoot! lacks some advanced features available only in the paid version.
  • Improvement: Offering more robust free features while maintaining premium options could benefit a broader range of users.


How to Use Kahoot! in The Classroom

There are some way to use "Kahoot!" in the classroom:

1. Assess Student Level:

  • You have to consider your students' age, grade, and prior knowledge to create Kahoot! quizzes, so that match their cognitive and developmental levels. You also have to adjust question difficulty is challenging, but do not overwhelm them.

2. Align with Material:

  • You have to design Kahoot! quizzes that directly align with your curriculum or learning objectives. Make quizzes that include various subjects, like math, science, language arts, and more. After that, miix the content types, such as multiple-choice questions, true/false, or image-based questions, depending on the subject matter.

3. Role of Kahoot!:

  • In the classroom Kahoot! is used as an engaging formative assessment tool to gauge understanding during or after a lesson.
  • Use Kahoot! as a review activity before a test or to reinforce key concepts.
  • Encourage critical students thinking by including questions that require analysis, application, or problem-solving skills.

My Experience: Using Duolinggo and Tandem As an Information Technology in English Learning Technology

Hi Oshin reader, my name is Steven Oshigaru Gunawan. I'm from Widya Mandala University, batch 2021. In this blog I will share my experience using Duolinggo and Tandem As an Information Technology in English Learning Technology. I decide to share this topic because I want to introduce the usage of Duolinggo and Tandem english learning development.


As we know that back then, the technology is not very unfold like now. In the past, we can only learn through textbook and others traditional teaching method. Now, we can learn and search many information through internet for example; cambridge dictionary website, quizzes.com, kahoot, etc. There are also some applications we can used in learning, like Duolinggo, tandem, U-dictionary, etc. In my personal experience, I've already used some of these applications to develop my language. In Duolinggo, we can learn many language like English, Germany, Japan, Korean, and others language. In Tandem, we also can learn many languages like in Duolinggo. When I learned language use Duolinggo, I found something that make it interesting. Duolinggo itself doesn't have a tutor section or a language exchange feature, but it does have games, quizzes, flashcards. Each language lesson also comes with an example which is totally great for beginners and intermediate learners 


When I used Tandem, I found that it has a language exchange feature. I also found that in Tandem we can learn with an actual language tutor and we can speaking directly with a native speaker. Something that make me interest in this application is when our grammar is wrong, the tutor will correct our grammar immediately. We also can do a video call with the tutor 



Conclusion

In my opinion, these both application is very useful in English learning. We can learn the vocabulary, the grammatical structure, listening even though speaking. 

Tandem = best for language learners who are interested to learn how to speak confidently with a native speaker and learning vocabulary and expressions through talk.

Duolingo = best for those who learn better through games and immersion with the target language
